Understanding Cambodian Road Signs: A Visual Guide
Road signs make up one of the largest categories on the Cambodia driving theory test, and theyโre also some of the easiest points to secure - if you know the system. Cambodian road signs follow shape and color conventions similar to the Vienna Convention on Road Signs and Signals, used across much of the world.
Prohibition signs: red circles
Signs that tell you not to do something - No Entry, No Overtaking, No Parking, No Motor Vehicles - are almost always circular with a red border and white background. If you see a red circle, think โthis action is restricted.โ
Warning signs: yellow triangles
Signs that warn you of a hazard ahead - a curve, a pedestrian crossing, roadworks - are typically yellow (or white) triangles with a black symbol and red border. These are informational rather than restrictive: they tell you to be cautious, not that something is forbidden.
Mandatory signs: blue circles
Signs that tell you what you must do - Keep Right, Go Straight, minimum speed - usually have a blue circular background with a white symbol. Unlike prohibition signs, these are positive instructions.
Information signs: blue or green rectangles
Signs giving general information - parking areas, paid parking, directions - are typically rectangular, often blue or green, and donโt follow the strict shape rules above.
